After a brief delay, the trailer of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai launched on Saturday. The initial response towards the David Dhawan classic humor has mixed responses. While few fans called it ‘old story in new packaging’, some appreciated it. The official trailer hints a chaotic love triangle centered around Varun Dhawan.

Helmed by David Dhawan, the film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde, Maniesh Paul, Chunky Pandey, Jimmy Shergill and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles.
The trailer opens in a court where Varun and Mrunal’s character are seen speaking to the judge. Varun reveals he wants to be a father. Cut to he is seen in London, where Pooja Hedge asks him if he is still single, to which he replies positively. The two fall in love and back home, Mrunal conceives and tell him the day he arrives. There in London Pooja is also pregnant. Varun now is sandwich between the two. Jimmy plays Pooja’s brother, who threatens Varun, leading to some humorous moments. The film promises to be a chaotic comedy-drama, with an ensemble cast.
Some scenes in the trailer reminded netizens of old Akshay Kumar movies like Garam Masala, which also featured the comedy of errors plotline. The familiar tropes, over-the-top acting and shoddy writing were called out by netizens following the trailer release. Some people even pointed out that Mouni Roy’s casting as Varun Dhawan’s ‘fake mother’ is awkward, as the actress is just a year older than him.
