On Friday, at least fifteen students of Bodhjung Girls Higher Secondary School fell ill with severe stomach and chest pain, allegedly due to food poisoning. As a result, the Tripura government fired the hostel warden and caretaker.
Additional secretary and director of Tribal Welfare Department S Prabhu wrote a letter to the president/secretary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Residential Hostel stating that ten hostel students were admitted to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital and Agartala Government Medical College (AMC) on June 20th due to complaints of severe stomach pain and vomiting.
According to the notice handed to the hostel administration, during the inspection of the hostel, it was discovered that it did not meet the standards for hygiene necessary on the premises. It was also alleged that meals are not being served to students in accordance with the menu that the government of Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Department has distributed. After the inspection, he wrote a letter to the hostel authorities: “You have been charged with terminating the hostel warden and caretaker right away and submitting a copy of the termination to our office by Friday, June 21, 2024.”
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who was visiting the hospitalised students, issued his concerned officials an order to investigate the situation and get back to him with a thorough report as soon as possible.
