Light to moderate rainfall were anticipated over Tamilnadu and nearby Puducherry in the days to come, when several parts of the region got rain on Sunday.

Moderate rains were reported in Chennai in various places like Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, Vadapalani and T Nagar. The cooler temperatures and relief from the warm weather came as the showers fell on the residents.

Rainfall was also observed in a few localities in the suburbs, such as Perungalathur and Vandalur. Heavy Rainfall along with strong wind speeds were received at parts of Chengalpattu district. In some localities like Thirumani, Vallam and Alapakkam, it rained over more than half an hour which disturbed the routine of the people.

Heavy Rains were also observed in Ranipet district in Walajapet, Arcot and Kaveripakkam. Low lying sections of a few roads flooded, causing some disruptions to traffic and the general public.

Moderate rainfall was reported from other part of Tiruvallur district, which includes Vedanginallur, Tirupachur, Pullarambakkam, Poondi, Bheemanthoppu, Punnapakkam and Ekkadu.

The weather department has forecast moderate rains in districts along the Western Ghats on Sunday and light to moderate rainfall at one or two places in the areas other than Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Later, the rain forecast was that moderate rainfall will continue in parts of Tamil Nadu till August 14 owing to the unsettled weather conditions which were expected to persist in the next few days.
