Bengaluru: Life for several went out of gear as Bengaluru witnessed incessant torrential rains. heavy waterlogging is reported causing constant distress. NDRF teams are deployed to rescue residents from inundated areas in Bengaluru.
“We have deployed two NDRF teams. SDRF, Fire service is also carrying out rescue operations. BBPM is also using tractors to evacuate people,” said J Senthil Kumar, Assistant Commandant, Bengaluru.
Earlier today CM Basavaraj Bommai in a media interaction snapped at the previous governance of the state led by Congress responsible for the deluge. He said, “the state is facing waterlogging due to “maladministration and totally unplanned administration of previous Congress government as they gave permission right, left & centre in the lakes & buffer zone.” He further provided assurance that there’s no impediment to the flow of water in future. The state administration has released a sum of Rs 1500 crore for draining water in Bengaluru while Rs 300 have been sanctioned to remove encroachment.
Meanwhile, the Silicon valley witnessed crippled scenes as life came to standstill. Overflowing lakes and stormwater drains inundated low-lying areas, boats and tractors were pressed into service to ferry techies and students to their workplaces and schools, respectively. Localities like Rainbow Drive layout, Sunny Brooks Layout, and some areas on Sarjapur Road were badly hit by water-logging.
A death due to negligence by the the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) sparked angst amongst the residents.The victim has been identified as Akhila, a resident of Siddapura in Whitefield who was working as an administrative staff member in a private school.
The city’s civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has a 24×7 helpline (2266 0000) and WhatsApp helpline (94806 85700), along with zonal helpline numbers. The toll-free number 1533 is also reportedly acting as the rain helpline.
