The injury situation has worsened in India with several key Indian players sidelined and India looking at making a full-strength team out of its injured players. The incident has brought questions of injury management and rehabilitation to BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE).

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will call off to meet VVS Laxman in Bengaluru to discuss rehabilitation programme and the condition of the injured players. The meeting follows controversy between the selection panel and the COE over injury dates and an injury being dealt to players before they are fully fit.

India’s Burgeoning Injury Hospitals:

With several key players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar combining on the list of injuries, India are facing a tough stoppage time at the moment.

Akash Deep has not been seen for the longest time following a lower back stress fracture in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy run and has come out to take the shot at the recent Test match in Mumbai.

Among the white-ball specialists, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Prince Yadav are also undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence.

The COE’s sports science team is reportedly being burdened with a lot of work given that Nitin Patel did not leave his job in early 2025, leaving it without a permanent head.

Concerns Over Bumrah And Sudharsan

Bumrah and Sudharsan had been in the initial fourteen involved in fitness square and were seen as being fit for at least one of the two Tests. But the COE medical experts doubted, however.

Bumrah is being added another few months of recovery after suffering water retention in his knee due to impact injury. Sudharsan, on the other hand, has persisted in his batting training routine, which involves 75 minutes per day, with an issue noted being left toe pain.

The selection committee has also been concerned with Harshit Rana’s fitness, as he has been saddled with extra kilos after he arrived in England.

The BCCI has thoroughly reviewed its injury-management policies and procedures, as there are a number of players off with injuries. Saikia and Laxman meeting will hopefully give clarity on the rehabilitation process and steps being undertaken to make sure players are just adequate to get back in the game.
