India have put themselves on the injury list for their T20I series over Afghanistan with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan being hit by an injury to the back in an attempt to tag him in a practice match in Delhi on Friday (September 11).

Kishan, who was training with Navdeep Saini in the nets, picked up the problem, it is said. The right-hander administered a shot at a bouncer from the Indian pacer who was bowling in net but at once looked uneasy and needed a physiotherapists’ attention from the Indian team.

The incident took place towards the end of Kishan’s 45-minute batting session. He didn’t train for the nets after that despite the early joy once India came into the world for the T20I opener at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13.

Kishan was able to walk independently after treatment. He then sat on an ice box with his teammates for a while before he departed without any teammate. The injury, however, appeared not to be serious as he was briefly seen talking with Saini after the session.

This was the scare after Kishan looked in good form in the batter’s seat. During the batting session he hit the ball squarely with Shreyas Iyer of India as his partner in the wickets before the concern for his injury ended the session.

With his crucial importance for India’s T20I plans, Ishan Kishan’s fitness will be closely monitored. Jharkhand batsman has posted 812 runs in 23 T20Is in 2026, being the second highest run scorer in the format so far this year. India will hope that the back issue will not hinder his appearance in the first match of the series.
