Delhi Police officers are scheduled to boycott at Jantar Mantar after claiming that they had been attacked during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the national capital earlier this month.
The federation of retired police officers in Delhi has written to Delhi police commissioner Anurag Kumar requesting him to grant permission to carry out one day’ ‘sit-in’ on July 31.
During the Parliament March by the CJP on July 20, it is reported that a large number of cops and paramilitary forces have sustained injuries while doing their duties.
Over 100 police personnel were injured after anti-social elements started infiltrating into the protest and attacked the security forces, the Delhi Police has claimed.
During the July 20 demonstration, police turned to lathi charges and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and the battle was violent near the Parliament. The protesters had alleged that police were using “excessive force,” while Delhi Police had claimed that its police officers had been “assaulted” in the violence during that period.
The retired officers’ body has proposed to hold the protest at the Jantar Mantar from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM in honour of police officers to maintain law and order and show solidarity.
The demonstration is designed to demonstrate the sacrifices made by police and paramilitary units during the exercise of their constitutional duties, the federation wrote in its letter.
The Application had been received by the General Diary (GD) Section of Delhi Police HQ on July 27. Authorities have not yet said if there is permission for the proposed protest.
