Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the party’s protest outside the Congress President’s office in Raipur over what it called a “planned attack” by the ruling party and police.
Baghel said in a post on X that BJP leaders, including some ministers of the state government, “violated democracy and constitution” during the protest.
Bhupesh Baghel said that the workers of the BJP threw stones at the Congress building, at Congress workers, while the cops sprayed water cannon on Congress supporters rather than controlling the protesters.
He said a large number of Congress workers were injured in the clash and several journalists covering the event were hurt.
Baghel also claimed that police did not file FIR against the Congress workers, but against the violence instead of the person who attacked the party office. The senior Congress leader likened the incident to the police violence against students protesting in Delhi recently and called it a planned assault under the police foot.
Baghel also cautioned all the police officers that the Congress would respond politically on them when there is a government changes. For the BJP government, the presence is only temporary and the tenure is limited. “Let me tell you, we will meet again; don’t like to alert police officers towards their alleged role in the incident”, Baghel said.
This confrontation came after BJP held a protest outside the Congress party headquarters in Raipur and it had turned violent when followers of the party got into fights with security personnel, leading to injuries suffered by several people.
