BCCI will hold a comprehensive evaluation following the disappointing T20I campaign after the current England tour, and secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the meeting will be held after the ODIs later this month.

India, the back-to-back T20 World Cup champions, have endured a difficult run under newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer. The team has lost five straight T20 Internationals, including a 2-0 series defeat of Ireland and a 3-0 deficit in the five-match series against England in contention.

Saikia admitted that the performance of the Indian team has not been at the level it should be; however, he said that it was only a halt in the journey and a time for recovery. The board would meet the players after their return from England, with the core team, to discuss how to highlight deficiencies and put in place any necessary improvements, he said.

The BCCI official also pointed out that the meeting for review would be cricket-specific only. He said that the talk will be about what they’ve done well, what they need to work on, and how to get back on track so they can prepare for next assignments.

India’s recent struggles have resulted in several unwanted records. The team suffered its maiden defeat against Ireland in a T20I and elongated its losing streak, and its first bilateral T20I series loss to England in a multi-format series.

The Men in Blue could also end up losing the Number 1 spot in T20I rankings and again sit in a bilateral T20I series without a win in the final game in Southampton if they get beaten by England.

Following the T20I series, India will play three ODIs against England before travelling to Zimbabwe for another T20I series later this month.
