On Day 3 of their one-off Test match against Afghanistan, India wrote history by beating the Afghans by an innings and 300 runs in their biggest ever Test innings victory. The hosts put on an emphatic display once they took the follow-on, finishing the game with only 35.5 overs to clear Afghanistan with 112 in the second innings.
Manav Suthar (23) saw his debutant start to the cricket world look perfect as he picked up six wickets in the first innings. The left-hander picked up the second wicket in the second innings while Washington Sundar performed exceptionally well and picked up four wickets. Kuldeep Yadav had a pivotal role in the success, taking three wickets as Afghanistan were bowled out under siege.
The second innings saw some resistance from Afghanistan as the pair of openers built a 42-run stand. Mohammed Siraj, though, found the breakthrough with Abdul Malik’s dismissal, leading to a dramatic collapse. The visitors were bowled out at regular intervals and could never get back on the game as India bowled the remaining four wickets for a mere 14 runs. Injured Sharafuddin Ashraf was not at the wicket.
The win was the biggest of all Indian Test triumphs and the second highest margin of victory by an innings on Indian soil, highlighting India’s complete dominance during the match.
