Hardik Pandya is rumoured to be out of the Indian Premier League captaincy for Mumbai Indians after his mediocre display during the season.Hardik Pandya is said to be out of the Indian Premier League captaincy for Mumbai Indians as he failed to impress in the league. Pandya’s stint as the franchise manager was poor with the team, and they had won just four of 14 matches during IPL 2026, ending up ninth on the points table.

The poor season has brought the spotlight on Pandya’s future as captain and automatic 11, as well. Sources close to the franchise stated that the signs of the loss of the team management’s faith in his leadership were apparent throughout the season. There are reports that there has been some discussion about the captaincy change in camp already.

Pandya’s tenure as the captain of the MI team has been turbulent times since he replaced Rohit Sharma after the high-profile move from Gujarat Titans in 2024. After his first season as a skipper, Mumbai Indians are in the bottom half of the pack and though they made the playoffs last year, the standards and expectations are higher for the franchise in view of its successes.

Multiple reports have also said that the dressing room has also become tense due to the team’s poor performance. There is now a “buzz within the franchise to oust Pandya before the next season, a source who spoke with Hockey India reported.

But, with no official statement yet, there is speculation that MI management may soon start the search for a new captain who they believe can rebuild the side following back to back underwhelming campaigns.
