Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has created a new record. The company has successfully tested the third version (V3) of the world’s largest rocket Starship. Seeing this, the American space agency NASA is also elated. NASA called it ‘one step closer to the Moon, one step closer to Mars’. However, the rocket was landed in the sea where it exploded with a loud bang. After the Flight-12 test on Saturday, senior NASA officials called it a big success for space missions. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, while sharing the pictures of the launch, called it a big step for America’s space mission.

It’s worth noting that the Starship series has already seen several launches, but this was the first test of the third-generation (V3) upgraded rocket and the 12th test of Starship. It was launched on the morning of May 23rd, Indian Standard Time. SpaceX, owned by the world’s richest businessman, Elon Musk, developed this rocket. The Starship spacecraft (upper part) and the Super Heavy booster (lower part) are collectively called “Starship.” This vehicle stands 403 feet tall and is fully reusable.

NASA plans to use Starship as a Human Landing System (HLS). This means that during the Artemis 3 mission and beyond, this spacecraft will carry astronauts to the lunar surface. NASA has long been preparing to send humans back to the Moon through the Artemis missions. Now, the successful test of Starship V3 appears to be giving this mission new momentum.

NASA says Starship testing is now meeting several key targets, including hot staging, booster performance, and orbital operations. While full reusability and human flight remain, each test brings the system closer to deployment. NASA says Starship isn’t limited to the Moon. If fully successful, it could also form the backbone of a future human mission to Mars.
