Dinesh Patnaik, the Indian High Commissioner in Ottawa, called on Arun Thangaraj, the Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss and reinforce the momentum that is currently gaining momentum in India-Canada bilateral relations. The conference, which was in Ottawa, aimed at strengthening the collaboration in various sectors and the close diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The talks, according to an official statement of the Indian High Commission, spanned the entire gamut of ties, such as economic cooperation, people-to-people interactions, and cooperation in priority areas. Both parties recognized the good trend of the relations over the past few months and pledged to continue the trend.
The meeting is against the backdrop of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recent visit to India where he had bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trip had a number of very important consequences, such as the initiation of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement ( CEPA ) that would enhance trade and investment between the two countries.
According to the officials, CEPA talks are under progress, and the two nations hope to bring to a close the talks by the close of the year. The signing of the agreement is likely to boost economic relationships, ease trade restrictions and provide new business opportunities on both sides.
The encounter between Patnaik and Thangaraj serves as an indication that ongoing diplomatic work is being done to enhance the long-term partnership and build upon the previous cooperation, indicating a similar mind towards developing the relation between India and Canada in a positive and progressive direction.
