Washington DC: A US flying gas station disappeared over Qatar following an emergency distress signal during its flight over the Persian Gulf. US’ Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker reportedly lost signal while flying near the Strait of Hormuz after broadcasting an in flight emergency alert.
According to the flight tracker, the plane that was operating under the US transmitted a “7700” emergency squawk code while flying near Iran. The plane had taken off from Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates before going off radar over Qatar. Data reveals, the plane took a circular pattern before beginning its descent.
The Pentagon or CENTCOM has not issued a confirmation yet, said local media. However, the distress signal is said to be common given the GPS/electronic jamming amidst tension in the region.
Earlier, another KC-135 Stratotanker was lost in Western Iraq during Operation Fury. Six US service members died in the incident. The Islamic Resistance of Iraq claimed responsibility, stating it had downed the aircraft “in defence of our country’s sovereignty and airspace”. The IRGC also confirmed the news that the aircraft was targeted by air defence system of the Resistance Front.
The US has lost multiple aircrafts during its operation Epic Fury including three fighter jets.
