Sharjah: Southern Iran recently experienced an event on Tuesday, as reported by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The earthquake had a recorded magnitude of 5.5. Occurred at a depth of around 10 kilometres (6.21 miles), according to GFZ. The National Centre of Meteorology in the UAE also confirmed this activity, providing details about a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that happened at 8:35 a.m.
However, what followed was a powerful and unsettling occurrence. 35 minutes later, at 9:10 a.m. another earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 shook the region. These consecutive earthquakes have raised concerns about aftershocks and overall seismic activity in the area.
Around 9:10 a.m., residents in the neighbouring emirate of Sharjah reported feeling tremors. This development has left the population anxious as experiencing two earthquakes in less than an hour raises doubts about the stability of the region.
Earthquakes of this magnitude can have consequences such as damage and disruptions and sometimes pose risks to life and property.
Consequently, various local and international organisations are carefully observing the situation. Underlining the significance of being well-prepared and taking action to safeguard the safety and welfare of individuals impacted by these seismic incidents in southern Iran.
