A major success by the Sukma Police has been the recovery of 52 lost and stolen mobile phones belonging to various jurisdictions of police stations and handing it back to their owners. The recovered equipment can be collectively estimated as costing about ₹8 lakh.
The phones were located and found in not only Chhattisgarh but also in neighbouring states such as Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Due to coordinated actions, with the help of sophisticated monitoring mechanisms, the recovery operation became possible.
The whole exercise was conducted with Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan as the guide. A special cyber cell division has been established, which operates under the guidance of senior officers, including Additional SP (Naxal Operations) Rohit Shah, Additional SP Abhishek Verma, and Deputy SP Monika Shyam. The leader of the operation was the Incharge Inspector of the Cyber Cell Pramod Kashyap.
According to the officials, the team used Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to monitor IMEI numbers and mobile data which enabled the team to effectively locate and recover the devices. After its recovery, the phones were officially delivered to their owners on May 5, 2026, in the office of the Sukma Superintendent of Police. The reappearance of the devices caused visible joy and relief to the owners, most of whom thanked the police in their efforts.
This is not the first of such successes of the Sukma police cyber team. They had already retrieved 112 mobile phones with approximately ₹16.50 lakh worth and delivered them to their owners on January 6, 2026. Those in charge have attributed the effectiveness and cooperation of the cyber cell, to the reason behind the sustained success of such recovery missions.
