Washington DC: 66 days into the war, United States on Tuesday declared an end to Operation Fury. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared its joined campaign with Israel against Iran over following which President Trump paused Project Freedom to tap in the peace talks.
“The operation is over. Epic Fury, as the president notified Congress, we’re done with that stage of it. We’re now on to this Project Freedom,” Rubio told reporters in the White House briefing room. Hours later, he went further: “Operation Epic Fury is concluded. We achieved the objectives of that operation.”
Pressing Iran to agree Donald Trump’s demands on its nuclear program and reopening the Strait; Rubio added that US would now prefer a path of peace and does not cheer for an additional situation to occur.
As Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi prepares to visit China on Wednesday, Rubio hopes the Tehran allies in Beijing convince Iran to release its chokehold on the strategic waterway as the ceasefire continues. “I hope the Chinese tell him what he needs to be told,” Rubio said. “And that is that what you are doing in the strait is causing you to be globally isolated. You’re the bad guy in this.” The secretary went on to argue that China, more than the US, is suffering from Iran’s actions in the strait, saying that China’s export-driven economy depends on shipments going through Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the recently announced naval escort mission- Project Freedom was also halt within two days of its operations. Taking to social media, Trump said the mission would be paused “for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalised and signed,” adding that he was acting at the request of Pakistan and other countries. The US naval blockade of Iranian ports, however, would “remain in full force and effect,” he added.
