Donald Trump escaped unharmed after a scare during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night, when several gunshots were reportedly fired outside the main venue. Authorities assured that Trump was unharmed, and other prominent figures, such as Melania Trump and JD Vance, were also evacuated.
The incident, according to authorities, occurred outside the ballroom in which hundreds of journalists, celebrities and political figures had assembled. The seniors such as Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio were at the location and were evacuated immediately as precaution.
The United States Secret Service confirmed that one of the suspects was arrested and was alive, dismissing the previous speculation of the suspect being killed. On-site witnesses said they heard five to eight shots, which caused them to panic until security agencies had control of the situation.
The arrested suspect was later posted on social media by Trump who said that the suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, was in possession of several weapons during the incident. The suspect is said to be a Californian but the police are yet to establish more information about him regarding his personal or political background.
Although the internet has been rife with unconfirmed social media reports regarding the background of the suspect, the authorities have advised people to be cautious and emphasize that the investigation is still underway. The federal agencies are now investigating the series of events, security lapses, and the motives of the suspect.
The case has brought about new security concerns in major public gatherings, despite their high security coverage.
