A huge airplane incident happened when an Airbus A330 on the flight of the Swiss International Air Lines under the name LX147 had to abort its landing around 1 am, and an emergency evacuation was done. The plane, which was scheduled to fly to Zurich after landing in Delhi, had 228 passengers on board and four infants, at the time of the accident.
The problem, according to sources, occurred during the takeoff roll, when smoke was observed on the port side landing gear which was allegedly caused by an engine malfunction. The flight crew responded promptly and aborted the take off and started emergency evacuation measures on the runway to secure safety of passengers.
A Swiss airline representative assured that the crew observed normal safety measures. The statement said that after the crew realized that something was wrong with one of the engines, they called off the takeoff and, after an evaluation, decided to evacuate the plane just in case.
Emergency slides were used to evacuate passengers and crew members and stairs provided to some individuals who could not use the emergency slides. The evacuation resulted in six passengers with minor injuries which they are presently receiving medical care. Their exact status is not officially determined.
Social media posts published by passengers revealed a tense and controlled situation that was reported by eyewitnesses and visuals. One of the passengers observed that no one was hurt and the airline has provided hotel rooms and alternative flights.
The government is supposed to carry out a thorough investigation into the root cause of the engine problem and the airline is still attending to the affected passengers.
