Spirit Airlines, the bankrupt discount carrier announced Saturday to discontinue its services becoming the first causality linked to Iran US war. After failing to secure credit support for a US government bailout plan, the impish startup has gone out of business after 34 years in the industry.

“It is with great disappointment that Spirit Airlines has started winding down its global operations, effective immediately. All flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. While we are not able to help rebook your flight on another airline, we will automatically process refunds for any flights purchased through Spirit with a credit or debit card to the original form of payment,” the airline said in a statement.

It added, “We are proud of the impact of our ultra-low-cost model on the industry for the last 33 years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to come.”

The airline website displays a notice informing its passengers ‘that the customer service is no longer available’, assuring a refund. The ultra-low cost airline that once operated hundreds of flights daily on it bright yellow planes employed nearly 17000 people.

The Trump administration had considered a government bailout for the cash stripped airline to keep it in business which however failed leading to its fall.

Meanwhile, American Airlines is offering rescue fare on Spirit’s routes. It said that it was in contact with US authorities and is taking steps to mitigate the impact on teh communities Spirit served. Likewise, United Airlines also said it was providing price capped one-way tickets from most cities where Spirit flew.
