Central Government has officially announced to appoint a new Chief Justice for Chhattisgarh High Court. The notification dated September 5 informs that the Chief Justice of Odisha High Court, Justice Krishna Ram Mahapatra has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court in place.
The Chhattisgarh High Court has also reappointed Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Agarwal as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
Justice Krishna Ram Mahapatra is an experienced Lawyer with a background of over 2 decades of practice. He was admitted as an advocate to Orissa State Bar Council on February 7, 1988 and has about 26 years of experience in various fields of law such as civil, service, criminal and constitutional law.
Justice Mahapatra was a standing counsel to Odisha Public Service Commission and Additional standing counsel to the state for the year while performing his duties as a lawyer. He served on the legal representation of various institutions and organisations as well.
Central Cooperative Banks limited, Keonjhar, National Institute of Open Schooling, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Nilachal Ispat Nigam Limited and Bank of Baroda were his previous clients and assignments.
Justice Mahapatra was appointed as a judge to the Odisha High Court on 17th April, 2015. His rich experience in various fields of law should be very useful for his posting as he assumes the leadership of Chhattisgarh High Court.
The appointments come as a big change in the leadership of both the Chhattisgarh High Court and the Rajasthan High Court, Justice Mahapatra getting the charge of Chhattisgarh while Justice Agarwal shifting to Rajasthan.
