Challenging its competitor Whoop, Google launched Fitbit Air- which feels less like a gadget and more like a deep breath. Launched this week, the smartwatch makes a radical shift in wearable philosophy. Citing it as ‘the smallest’ health tracker yet, Google calls the Fitbit Air fitness band to be discreet, “proactive wellness partner” that provides high end health data.
Google commissioned basketball player Steph Curry to promote the as-yet unannounced band on his social channels. There was an ad post on Instagram, but there’s further proof the sports star actually wore it in the weeks before his post.
Design: The Power of Nothing
The most striking feature of the Fitbit Air fitness band is what it lacks- the screen. Weighing merely 12 to 16 grams, the tiny ‘pebble’ design to be forgotten on your wrists. Wrapped in a soft, recycled textile, the performance loop is packed with high-fidelity sensors. It discreetly collects your health data.
