In the early hours of Saturday, a truck driver, 22, was killed in a devastating skirmish between two trucks which sparked a fire on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Gurugram. The victim Deepu Kumar of Unnao, Uttar Pradesh was trapped inside the crumpled vehicle and could not escape as the fire spread fast on both the trucks.
Police said that the accident happened on the carriageway from Palwal to Kundli near Patli Hajipur village in Farrukhnagar. According to the initial investigation, a truck that was registered in Haryana crashed into another vehicle, which was registered in Uttar Pradesh, causing a big effect that ended up starting a fire. The accident started to begin a huge fire which soon engulfed both vehicles before fire services could arrive.
Motorists, who gave information to the police control room, said they became aware of the attack at about 1:20 am. Manesar and Pataudi fire department teams immediately sprung into action upon hearing about the incident. Firefighters arrived when both trucks were already on fire.
While rescuing Deepu Kumar, the fire officers recovered charred remains of Kumar, the trio’s driver from the rear truck. The corpse was turned over to police for legal proceedings and autopsy.
Investigations are underway to determine, the exact cause of the crash, as well as what caused the fire, officials said. The family members of deceased persons have been informed and further action would be taken in accordance with their complaint.
The crash also was an eyesore for the expressway. Firefighters put out the fire and authorities towed away the burned vehicles and traffic was restored.
