A new pattern has emerged across the state with IMD issuing several thunderstorm and rain alerts for multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh. Although some regions of Uttar Pradesh have already been witnessing the fury of a heatwave for a while, the current changes in the weather are expected to ease the situation for the residents.
Temperature Fall and Heat Wave Respite
According to the Meteorological Department, the incoming rain could lead to a reduction in the maximum temperatures ranging from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. This fall is expected to alleviate the heat wave situation currently troubling several locations within the state. Nevertheless, residents are advised to prepare themselves because heat waves may still prevail in small pockets prior to the effect of the rain hitting its full potential.
Meanwhile, Delhi too woke up to light showers with sharp dip in temperatures. IMD also warned for gusty winds across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim & Northeast India from 3rd–5th May. Heavy rainfall likely.
Orange Alert for Selected Districts
On the basis of the prevailing weather conditions on Wednesday, May 3rd, the IMD issued an orange alert for Western UP and the Terai region. People need to brace themselves for heavy rain accompanied by hail.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in the central and eastern parts of the state may also change rapidly. The department has issued a yellow alert for districts like Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Bareilly, and Prayagraj. However, no warning has been issued for districts in the Bundelkhand region, such as Jhansi, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakoot, and Lalitpur. The weather here is expected to remain normal.
The Meteorological Department has also clarified that this warning will be effective from 8:30 am on May 4, 2026, to 8:30 am on May 5, 2026. Therefore, these 24 hours are crucial for Uttar Pradesh, and require caution from a weather perspective.
