After a thrilling contest in the Assam Assembly elections, the nation is now watching the results. A close contest has been witnessed between the NDA and Congress alliances in the state. The real battle in this election is between two prominent leaders: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of the BJP and Gaurav Gogoi of the Congress. In the high-profile Jalukbari constituency in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma continues to maintain a commanding lead. This seat is considered a BJP stronghold, and Himanta Biswa Sarma has been an MLA from here for 25 years. However, this time, all eyes are on the results.
Voting for the state’s 126 assembly seats was held in a single phase on April 9. Currently, trends have been received for 72 seats in Assam. Of these, the BJP is leading in 60 seats, while the Congress is leading in 12.
Assam Assembly Elections: What Exit Polls Predict
If the exit polls are to be believed, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is heading for a historic third consecutive term. Projections from major agencies like Axis My India and Today’s Chanakya suggest a comfortable majority for the saffron alliance, with some surveys predicting the BJP could win over 100 seats.
Most polls place the incumbent government well above the 80-seat mark, while the Congress-led ‘ASOM’ alliance is projected to hover in the 25 to 35-seat range.
The Congress camp, however, remains optimistic, banking on a late surge in the tea belt and rural Nagaon to defy the projections.
