UP police arrested an alleged active terrorist of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) with suspected links to ISI. Lajar Masih, who was the accused in the case, was arrested during a joint operation between Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Punjab Police in the Kaushambi.
Uttar Pradesh DGP (director general of police) Prashant Kumar stated that Masih had planned a big terrorist attack during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. But he was thwarted by tight security at the religious gathering. According to Kumar, he could not carry out his plan as his security checks were taken too intensively.
Masih, who was reportedly working under Swarn Singh, also christened as Jeevan Fauji, who was the chief of a Germany based module of Babbar Khalsa International, was a resident of Kurlian village in Amritsar. Long on the radar as an active terror outfit, the terror outfit has been caught on surveillance in India for its activities.
The arrest was made in the Kokhraj police station area of Kaushambi, Kaushambi, UP STF and Law & Order additional DG of police Amitabh Yash said. Authorities located a large supply of weapons, made up of three active hand grenades, two live detonators, a foreign-made pistol and 13 cartridges, during the operation.
Police also found an Aadhaar card with an address in Ghaziabad indicating that possibly Masih was using fake documents to evade his identity. He was also accused of having seized a mobile phone without a SIM card that appeared to be used for communication.
Further investigation also showed that Masih had managed to evade judicial custody in Punjab on 24.09.2024. Now, authorities are attempting to probe his network and possible associates to stop any threats.
