Andhra Pradesh is seeing very unusual weather with the occurrence of unseasonal weather elements such as rains and heatwaves together in multiple districts during the peak summer season. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on Friday predicted light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in the coming two days, warning of the possibility of severe heatwave conditions in some parts of the State.

The weather pattern change is being pushed by the prevailing of southeasterly and southwesterly winds in the lower tropospheric level over the state, according to the SDMA official. Scattered rainfall is likely on Friday and Saturday over several districts with the atmospheric conditions.

Isolated rains, with lightning, are likely at isolated places in districts like Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavalam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Chittoor, Tirupati, said SDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain.

It stated that the conditions are likely to remain similar in districts like Guntur, Bapatla, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal and parts of the north and south coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Even in the midst of the rains, some parts are still experiencing high temperatures during a heat wave. Severe heat wave alerts have been given to GK Veedhi mandal in ASR district and heat wave condition is expected in Munchingiputtu and Pedabayalu mandals. Warnings for the remaining areas of East Godavari and Polavaram are similar.

The unseasonal weather is impacting crop drying and harvesting operations and routine farming activities in some places, officials said. Residents have been warned to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and not to spend too much time in extreme heat. The SDMA has urged local administrations to stay alert and take necessary precautionary measures to minimise weather-related risks.
