The trainee pilot’s body was recovered from Jharkhand’s Chandil Dam on Thursday by a 16-person Indian Navy and National Disaster Response Force team. The crash occurred three days prior, just minutes after the two-seater training aircraft took off.
Officials said that while searchers were looking for instructor pilot Shatru Jeet Anand, they also noticed Shubhrodeep Dutta’s body entangled in the wet bushes. After taking off from Sonari Airport, the Alchemist Aviation Pvt. Ltd. aircraft lost contact with Jamshedpur Air traffic control and crashed into the dam 15-20 minutes later.
Dutta’s parents were able to identify his body, according to district police superintendent Mukesh Lunayat. Lunayat declared, “We have sent it post-mortem.”
Shubhra Rani, a Chandil sub-divisional officer who spent two days at the location, reported that the Navy team arrived in Jamshedpur late on Wednesday night and began searching the area at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Teams from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and the Director General of Civil Aviation were on the scene to conduct an investigation. The teams spoke with Mrinal Kanti Pal, managing director of Alchemist Aviation Pvt. Ltd., about the incident.
