A political controversy over comments made by the daughter of Cabinet minister Konda Surekha against the Chief Minister and other Congress leaders has led to the recommendation to remove her from the Cabinet by Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy with immediate effect.
A suggestion for Surekha’s dismissal has been forwarded to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, according to the release from the Chief Minister’s Office. The daughter’s remarks have led to a few criticises by the ruling party’s MLAs and functionaries on the Forest and Endowment portfolio against Surekha.
Revanth Reddy has also revoked the office of Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board of G Chinna Reddy with immediate effect, besides recommending Surekha’s removal.
The developments came after a couple of deliberations in Delhi by Revanth Reddy deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and senior AICC leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal.
The Telangana Congress Disciplinary Committee had earlier proposed plagiarising heavy action against Surekha and Chinna Reddy. Surekha then met AICC Telangana affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and Kharge, and discussed all the sides.
Speaking to the reporters on Wednesday, Surekha said that she had asked the party leadership to let her stay in the Cabinet. She stated that she had done her duty as a Minister and there were no charges of corruption against her.
In reply to some Congress MLAs who demanded punishments on her, Surekha asserted the legislators were neither working in an independent manner nor instigated by any “body”.
