Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has clarified that the posture he adopted in a speech to his Assembly while using his jaw was not an attempt to get hurt and should not be construed as intentionally slamming his face on the table.
TVK president Vijay, in a post on social media platform X on Tuesday trolled the debate on the demand on grants in Police and Fire and Rescue Services departments, commented on the issue of his gesture.
Vijay said that during his response speech on 7 September, he was being completely spontaneous when he was casting his gaze downwards. He said that this is not a “personal” gesture to offend anyone anywhere.
The clarification was issued on Tuesday, a day after violence in washerwoman’s associations in Tamil Nadu after Vijay had raised allegations against the DMK administration for alleged corruption in the state-run liquor retailer TASMAC. In his remarks, Vijay quoted from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The chief minister also touched upon important laws such as the MISA Act and the Sarkaria Commission, after which walkout benchmarks of the ruling DMK members boycotted the Assembly.
The scene in which Vijay’s hand was placed on his jaw and he showed as though he lifted it rocked a lot of social media. Some people on social media alleged that gesture was meant to poke fun at former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK President MK Stalin.
The rumours were rumoured based on reports of a jaw fracture suffered by Stalin during imprisonment during the Emergency in 1975.”
Vijay’s explanation comes in response to the controversy triggered by this gesture, and the TVK chief-DMK politics today has captured the attention of Tamil Nadu.
