Alwar has become the scene of a heart-wrenching accident, in which two minor sisters died of suffocation after reportedly getting trapped in a parked car under very high heat conditions during the biting heatwave in the North.
According to police officials, the incident took place in the Khudanpuri area under the Vaishali Nagar police station limits. Tina was 8 and Lakshmi was 5 years old. The sisters have reportedly been playing in their neighbourhood on Wednesday afternoon after they left their house.
The children are thought to be inside a parked car at a local car service in play. The car doors were locked by accident, leaving the girls inside when the temperature of the vehicle was very high, investigators believe. The heat inside the parked car reportedly became too hot for the driver to handle within minutes, with temperatures in Rajasthan rising above 43℃.
The family members and residents began to search for the children after they were missing for a few hours. Finally, the girls were located in the car with unresponsive pupils. They were taken to a local hospital but both were pronounced dead on arrival.
Later the corpses were moved to the district hospital mortuary, police officials said. The incident is being thoroughly investigated.
Once more the tragedy has been a reminder of how dangerous it can be for children to remain in parked cars in the summer heat. The incident has caused shock and grief to locals and prompted officials to advise parents to be more vigilant during the current heat wave.
