A different demonstration, which took place after the prayers of Eid al-Adha in Jaipur, has become popular all over Rajasthan and has spread virally on social media. Rajasthan Hajj Welfare Society members camped on Delhi Bypass Road and demanded that the central government declare the cow as the national animal of the country.

The event was well attended with thousands of Muslims congregating at the Eidgah at the time of morning prayer, and ended peacefully as usual. But, shortly after the prayers were concluded, some of the members were holding banners and posters pertaining to cow welfare and protective laws against cow slaughter and cow cruelty outside of Eidgah.

Throughout the demonstration, the participants stayed peaceful to reiterate that the cow is not only an animal but a very significant part of one of the country’s cultures and heritage.

The society’s general secretary Haji Sheikh Nizamuddin, appealed to the government, beseeching it not to allow politics in cow protection matters anymore but to set a stringent law on the national level to secure the safety of the cow for the whole nation.

He urged the central government to start a massive campaign to protect cows, to prevent the killing of any cows anywhere in the country. He stated that much tougher laws and good implementation are required to curtail the cruelest aspects and unlawful practices on cows.

The event also spread communal harmony and compassion. Participants noted that the concept of Eid-ul-Azha is related to sacrifice, but the demonstration was their effort to spread humanity, kindness towards living beings, and brotherliness in society.

A number of the youths involved in the demonstration said they had gone to raise the bar of social harmony and spread a positive message for peace.

In order to keep security and facilitate the people to move around the Eidgah area after the prayers and demonstration, heavy police deployments in various parts of the area were made.
