A shocking quadruple murder case has come to light in Ajmer district, where a former sarpanch and his mother, second wife and niece were allegedly murdered and then set afire in a vehicle. The former sarpanch’s former wife and their two children have been arrested by police in the case, which investigators believe was motivated by “domestic issues.
The incident occurred in Shrirampura village located about 60 km away from Ajmer city. Police found a burning Mahindra Scorpio on a highway near the victims’ house. Police authorities initially considered this to be a possible accident but it was soon transformed into a murder investigation when they saw suspicious circumstances at the scene.
Former sarpanch Ram Singh Choudhary, his mother Poosi Devi, his second wife Suryagyan Devi and his niece Mahima Chaudhary were identified as dead. Three bodies were found to be severely charred inside the vehicle while Suryagyan’s was found separately in a nearby field in which her throat had been slit, implying a brutal attack that occurred prior to the fire.
Ram Singh had been under police watch since 2019 when he came out with his first wife, Sunita, who had stood in the way of his marriage with Suryagyan, police said. The two were married and had two children. Investigators found that both wives lived in the same house, causing frequent conflict and bad family relationships.
Suryagyan was an active public man, who was a member of the District Council as well as pursuing his law studies. Initially, the case was believed to be a fire incident but it was soon detected that there were some inconsistencies in the statements and forensic analysis that led Superintendent of Police Harsh Vardhan Agarwala to suspect a planned murder conspiracy.
Police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened and if there were more people involved in the killings.
