Chandigarh: Under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the ‘Nal Jal Mitra Program’ is set to commence across all villages in Punjab. The Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has developed a multifaceted skilling course for ‘Nal Jal Mitras’ (Water Friends). Importantly, there will be no fee for participants, as the government will bear the entire cost.

Bram Shankar Jimpaa, the Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation, highlighted that the primary objective of this course is to provide skill-based training to local residents in villages. The goal is to empower them to effectively implement water supply schemes. Completing this course equips individuals to handle minor repairs and maintenance efficiently. Moreover, it enhances their capabilities to manage water-related issues in a rural setting.

The ‘Nal Jal Mitra Program’ signifies a strategic initiative to bridge the skill gap and empower communities at the grassroots level. Minister Jimpaa emphasized that this course aims to make participants adept in overseeing water supply projects, ensuring their seamless operation.

One noteworthy aspect of the initiative is the potential for employment opportunities at the rural level for those who complete the course. The government’s commitment to covering the expenses underscores its dedication to promoting skill development and creating avenues for livelihood at the local level.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision to implement such programs reflects a holistic approach towards rural development, focusing not only on infrastructural enhancements but also on building local capacities. The ‘Nal Jal Mitra Program’ emerges as a pivotal step in fostering self-reliance and sustainability in managing water resources at the village level.

As Punjab embraces this innovative initiative, it not only addresses skill development but also aligns with broader goals of community welfare and sustainable rural growth. The holistic impact of this program is anticipated to resonate positively in the villages, contributing to enhanced water management and economic prospects for the participants.
