Amsterdam: The Punjab chief minister has made an impactful step towards empowering grass root sports by holding discussions with the legendary Dutch hockey player Floris Jan Bovelander on Tuesday.

CM Mann, who was on an official tour of the Netherlands, stated that the legendary Dutch hockey player had agreed to grace Punjab with a visit. During his visit, the Olympic Gold Medalist will hold masterclasses and motivation classes for the young players of Punjab.

Legendary Player

With a track record that is second to none, Floris Jan Bovelander made his mark in the history of hockey.

International Successes: As a key player of the Golden era of Dutch Hockey, he helped his country win the 1990 World Cup and the Olympic Gold in Atlanta in 1996.

Big-Time Performer: His greatest moment arrived when he scored two goals through drag flicks in the 1996 Olympic final, winning the match for the Dutch team.

Enhancing the “Spine” of Indian Hockey

Punjab has been the cradle of Indian hockey, regularly breeding top-notch talent like the present captain of the national side, Harmanpreet Singh. However, Mann stressed the importance of contemporary scientific training and international experience to ensure that this supremacy continues uninterrupted.

“It was a great pleasure meeting Olympian Floris Jan Bovelander. His exceptional story and technical skills will prove invaluable for our upcoming sportsmen,” Mann stated on his social media page. “We will continue to invest in developing athletic talents and raise the level of hockey.”

This partnership takes place at a pivotal moment when India is gearing up for its next Asian Hockey Championship. According to the officials, Bovelander’s knowledge of penalty-corner finishes and competitive performances will offer Punjab’s future stars an advantage over their rivals in the national game.
