In the Satpura Tiger Reserve, a tragic discovery was made in the Pachmarhi forest division, whereby the carcass of an adult male tiger was found. The body had been found in a distant and inaccessible place known as Beat Patharhi forest range, compartment number PF 250.

On the night of May 1, 2026, the forest officials were informed about the death of the tiger. The rescue and inspection crew arrived at the scene on the next day, May 2, to begin a thorough inspection, due to the rugged terrain and deep gorges and steep forested slopes.

The preliminary findings also revealed that none of the body parts of the tiger was damaged, eliminating the possibility of poaching at an initial stage. A dog patrol was sent to scan through the area well in case of foul play but no indication of foul play was detected. The authorities said that the carcass is in good condition and externally there are no injuries, which indicates that the death was natural.

A postmortem was then carried out in the presence of the senior forest officials and representatives of the National Tiger Conservation Authority in accordance with the standard operating procedures. The examination was carried out by Dr. Gurudatt Sharma and his team to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Once the formalities were completed, the last rites of the tiger were carried out in the protocol. Governments have once again reaffirmed their strong measures in regard to monitoring and preservation activities to ensure that the wildlife in the reserve is well maintained and conserved.
