Washington: The Trump administration authorized a sale of more than $8.6 biilion in emergency arms sales to its Middle East allies. The approval comes as truce talks to end the war are underway.

The State Department made the announcement on Friday. U.S. Department of State has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Qatar for its purchase of PATRIOT Air and Missile Defense replenishment services and related equipment. The estimated total cost is $4.01 billion,” said the Us govt department in a public statement.

As per the announcement, under the deal Israel and UAE will receive rockets while Kuwait will be supplied air defence equipment. Under the terms, Israel would receive APKWS for $992m and battle command system is being procured by Kuwait for $2.5 billion.

Meanwhile, Qatar is said to receive aid in the form of rockets and air defense. The Gulf nation is set to pay more than $4billion for advanced precision kill weapon system (APKWS), restock its Patriot air missile and air defense system.

The State Department earlier in March approved separate arms deal with Kuwait, Jordan and UAE worth $16.5 billion. UAE procured drones, missiles, radar systems and F-16 aircrafts while Kuwait strengthened its air defence.

The package comes amidst US-Israel campaign against Iran that are shaping the security dynamics in the region pressing nations to strengthen their defence systems.
