Police officers in Indore have broken a drastic robbery case worth Rs. 29.65 lakh and the entire gang has been caught by them. It was found that the perpetrator of the heist was a retired official of the army that exploited his inside sources with regards to a businessman’s financial collection process, to plot the heist.

The robbery happened in the Pandrinath area of Indore where an employee of a collection agency of a scrap businessman had been robbed of about ₹30 lakh on May 24. Upon the incident, the police established a special investigation team and conducted a wide-ranging investigation by bringing in CCTV footage, technical evidence and intelligence inputs.

Police said that Chandrashekhar Mukati, the key accused, obtained a knowledge of the businessman’s dealing regarding money collection and financial transaction from another trader. He had no direct connection to the victim but apparently he learned the collection process and passed it on to associates.

The robbery was premeditated by investigators after studying the flow of funds after the money was collected from the shop earlier by Mukati, who was accompanied by accomplices Praveen, Amar, Firoz and Kapil Bhandari. The accused subsequently confessed in questioning that the motivation for carrying out the crime was due to the fact of financial problems and money expenses.

The gang frequented changes of hideout after the heist, and is believed to have been present in various states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan to avoid arrest. But they succeeded in catching all the suspects because they tracked them continuously and in a co-ordinated manner.

The police found ₹22.5 lakh cash with the accused as well as a vehicle with the funds looted. Further, the investigators have found that the accused has donated ₹1.11 lakh at the renowned Sanwariya Seth Temple after the robbery.

Further investigations are underway into the remaining amount of money and the other specifics of the case, police said.
