In the second ODI of the series in Lucknow, Shubman Gill (India) and wicketkeeper-bowler Ishan Kishan (India) given a brilliant display of their batting skills to give India a commanding advantage in the game.

After arriving early at the crease, Gill went on to score his first ODI century as captain of India, adding to his illustrious record of achievement as a batter. With a calm and confident approach, Gill went on to make his debut in India’s scoring hundreds as the captain, accentuating his collection of batting accolades. The skipper got used to the new environment, hitting his shots from out of position for the batsman and taking a majority role in the innings at the same time scoring well.

Kishan, meanwhile, capped off a long absence for an ODI hundred, scoring his first hundred in ODI cricket since his record breaking double hundred against the Bangladesh team in December 2022. The left-hander had best leveled the score during the first over to then go through a rare tactical metamorphosis and destroy the Afghan bowling with boundaries and sixes in the second.

India got a shot at an opening change in their batting order with Yashasvi Jaiswal opening with Rohit Sharma. Gill however came up trumps, and forced his way on the bowlers. Having made his strokes count all day, his level playing kept India in the game.

Gill/Kishan team made the difference. Having chanted the innings skillfully, Kishan unleashed a whirlwinds counter-attack against Afghanistan’s spinners Rashid Khan and AM Ghazanfar. The pair helped get on top of the visitors with some frustration and it was time to take the lead for India.

Kishan bouncebacked from an underwhelming start starting in the T20 World Cup, with his hundred helping establish a solid re-start. Gill’s knock continued to build his resume as India’s safe pair as well.

The pair struck an amazing alliance, which led to the Lucknow fray being an example of Indian batting genius and a demonstration of the chemistry between two close friends at the crease.
