Depalpur: At the community health centre of Depalpur in Madhya Pradesh, many patients are experiencing important problems related to electricity and water supply. Presently, the hospital is dealing with cases of four women waiting on options; some of the mothers are even hospitalized with the newborns. However, the municipal council has been negligent in providing drinking water; there is no source of water inside the hospital, and the restroom taps are empty.

Patients, especially the poor ones, have complained throughout the morning of a power blackout of over three hours in the hospital. The government hospital they visited has no electricity supply, added to the fact that the heat is so intense that they have successfully performed 2 cesarean operations, 2 normal deliveries and the admission of a young girl today.

Females are gently fanning their children with the ends of Indian sarees and other fabrics in order to prevent them from sunburns. In contrast, the power that has recently been restored appears to be insufficient to reduce the heat’s effect, but meanwhile, the responsible authorities remain indifferent, as if their eyes are shut.

Lalluram Dot Com had visited the hospital after they had received complaints from several patients and as confirmed from the site, the hospital ministry did not have both electric and portable water. Staff immediately switched on a generator to have light back and began to try and ease the plight of admitted patients.

There is a drying borewell, and the municipal council has been asked daily to provide two water tankers for the hospital, but only one is received occasionally. Yesterday, for instance, no tanker showed up. Still, the council has not responded even with requests to make necessary repairs to some borewells.
