Madhya Pradesh: SC Commission directs Police to expedite action against Congress Chief Jitu Patwari in Imarti Devi case

Now, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari might have to face more legal and political pressure after receiving notice from the Madhya Pradesh State Scheduled Castes Commission (MSSC) to the police in Gwalior to take action against him in the SC/ST Act case filed by former minister Imarti Devi.

The court case is related to an alleged controversial statement by Patwari during the Lok Sabha general elections contest of the year 2024. The Patwari allegedly made an objectionable comment with reference to Imarti Devi while talking to the media on May 2, 2024. It was insulting and derogatory, said Imarti Devi, so she had filed an FIR on 3rd May 2024 at Dabra City Police Station, Gwalior.

The BJP leader has in her complaint stated that the Patwari had tainted her honour as a member of the Scheduled Caste in public. Police filed an FIR on the complaint under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as well as the provisions of the law.

At the SC/ST Act-related case review meeting at the SP office, Gwalior, Dr Kailash Jatav, Chairperson of the SC/ST Chairman, organized a status report on the investigation. He said “dismayed at the pace of the probe” that Patwari was not traceable, adding that Congress leader has been fervently making the rounds in the Datia Assembly byelection.

Dr. Jatav told police officials to take prompt action in compliance with the law and asked the cops to act immediately. Police officials also said that the case will be further taken up as per the instructions of the commission, which is set to assume significance ahead of the Datia bypoll.
