India added another sport to its record as Gulveer wins historic silver in men’s 10,000 metres at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian to secure a podium finish in the event.

Running in difficult conditions like heavy downpour and a rain-soaked track at the Scottstone Stadium, Gulveer stayed with the lead lead pack before he unleashed the brilliant finish in the final steps. The Indian clocked 27.49.78 seconds to clinch silver, finishing narrowly behind Australia’s Kee Robinson, who won gold. Isle of Man’s David Mularkey took the bronze medal at 27.50.28 seconds. The Asian Games bronze medallist’s fearless performance and strong finish in the final laps earned India its first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in men’s 10,000 metres.

Besides Gulveer, pugilist Harjinder Kaur staged a brilliant performance, winning silver at the women’s 69 kg weightlifting, breaking Games records in both the snatch and clean and jerk on Tuesday. The 29-year-old had won a bronze at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the higher category of 71 kgs, rewriting the Games record in the snatch twice, first clearing 99 kgs before improving it to 101 kgs. Harjinder won India its seventh medal from the sport. She continued her record-breaking spree in the clean and jerk, where she successfully lifted 123 kgs before raising the bar to 126 kgs, taking her overall total to 227 kgs.

Indian weightlifters have so far collected seven medals, with one being gold, five silver and one bronze, underlining the country’s growing depth and consistency at the Commonwealth Games.

Besides India also registered few defeats on day six at the Glasgow Games. Swimmee Srihari Nataraja failed to qualify for the men’s 100-meter backstroke final. In the boxing category, Kapil Pokharia lost against Scotland’s Robert McNulty in the men’s 90 kgs quarterfinal. Meanwhile, Jadumani Singh has assured India a medal. He gets into the semi-finals of men’s 55 kgs boxing event, defeating Merengo Mowale by a unanimous decision. He took the second round 5 against 0. However, India ended up being the undisputed winner of the round.

In the high jump sports, Pooja failed her third and final round at 1.82 meters, bringing an end to the competition. A heartbreaking end for the 19-year-old Indian sensation.

Recent victories at the Commonwealth Games on Day 6 have taken the Indian medal tally to 12.

Earlier on Monday, Sharmila Dhankar bagged the ultimate glory for India, becoming the first para-athlete from the country to clinch rank number one in the women’s shot put F57 finale. The likes of Gyaneshwari Yadav, Sarvesh Kushare and Valluri Ajaya Babu claimed silver medals, and Bindrayani Devi and Shilpa Keshyala added bronze. The only other gold medal added to India’s collection is Mirabai Chanu, who completed a hat-trick of the top podium finishes in her CWG career, lifting a weight of combined 190 kgs in the women’s 48 kg category. Weightlifting has so far been the successful sport for India at the CWG 2026, producing more, producing six medals so far.
