Recently, the West Bengal Assembly passed the Anti-Rape Bill, which has also been named the Aparajita Women and Children Bill (West Bengal Criminal Law and Amendment) 2024. This has been a landmark across the country, and it aims to fight against the sexual violence faced by women and children in the country. Responding to the bill, Jitu Patwari, who is the President of Madhya Pradesh Congress, said that the West Bengal Government has taken a significant step.

He further said that, “The administration should undertake efforts to prevent such incidents. This is a commendable initiative.” Jitu Patwari said that rape is not just an issue being faced in any single part of the country, it has been a national concern for all the women. In this situation, he targeted the President of India, saying that they have not expressed their concerns and opinions regarding the same over the past few days.

Patwari also said that a similar law was passed in Madhya Pradesh back in 2017, where the rapists were sentenced to death. However, he said that Shivraj Singh Chouhan made misleading statements regarding the same, as the number of rapes did not reduce. He continued saying that despite the rules and regulations passed by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, approximately 17 rape cases happen daily in Madhya Pradesh. Along with that, he also said that Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of rape cases of Dalits.

But he made a criticism of the former administration of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, saying that they failed to deliver the promises. He talked about the promises made by them such as offering 3000 INR monthly to the women, and 3100 INR monthly to the farmers, while they were actually delivering much less. At last, Patwari said that the efforts being done by Shivraj to praise his party are not good as they can’t overshadow the severe issues of crime in Madhya Pradesh.
