Congress targets Indore Mayor over alleged corruption, civic mismanagement after four years

The Congress had launched an aggressive attack against the BJP-led Indore Municipal Corporation, alleging rampant corruption, poor management and failure to address the public welfare concerns of the corporation while four years in office.

City Congress President Chintu Chouksey and Congress Leader of Opposition Sonila Mimrot, at a joint press conference, alleged that the civic body was no longer integral to development but had turned into scorn and controversy in the process. Over the last four years they said that although the number of serious incidents and allegations were great, nothing was done to effectively stop those responsible.

The Congress has Spear acted the spotlight on the Beleshwar Mahadev temple tragedy in which 36 people died, demanding that the affected families are not receiving proper justice and support, noting that the officials who had to remove after the tragedy were under-went quick reinstatement. As part of the party’s reference to the deaths caused by contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura, the party sought accountability to be tied.

The opposition also blamed the civic body for allowing investigation to be restricted to show choicemoonshine in the course of investigating those involved in the alleged Rs 1,000 crore sewer project scam and recently reported property mutation scam.

Senior Congress leaders also asserted that the municipal corporation is under a severe financial crisis, saying that more than Rs 600 crore is yet to be received from the state government, impacting civic services all over the city.

Other claims were for the cancellation of financial support for Anant Chaturdashi tableaux, for stopping the subsidised city bus passes for differently-abled individuals, elderly and students, and also for the failure to supply for the differently-abled.

So the Congress workers had stage protests from various parts of the town, demanding that the roads be repaired, the drainage systems open, water made available lest there be water shortage, and that there is no corruption in civic administration; they were shown up as the Pushyamitra Bhargav of Indore.
