Morena: In Morena, Madhya Pradesh, there are still instances of electricity theft, even though the power company has said that it is taking measures to prevent such activities. Such a case surfaced recently when war broke out between two clans over the illegitimate supply of electrical energy known as “katia”. This degenerated into a clash in which the individuals used stones and sticks to assault each other. The video footage of the event was captured by a witness, and it has been shared widely on sites.
This clash happened on December 27 in the Bajrang Nagar, Maharajpur Road, at Civil Lines police station. Punjab Bansal was fighting on one side, and Dhara Singh, Ramkesh Ramveer and Anil Jatav were fighting on the other side. There was a verbal altercation regarding the use of wires for electricity theft. There was more confusion as the fight escalated to the extent that the two engaged in a head-and-hand encounter and hurling of stones.
In different aspects and regarding this serious matter and viral video, it is known that the police have not done anything. It is shocking that in a country like India, the matter was taken to the Civil Lines police station, but no action has been taken against the guilty. Some people in the region believe that the government is likely to hold its breath until another worse calamity happens.
Tapping of electricity still persists through acts of unauthorized wire connections and poses a major set back to efforts made by the power company in its endeavour to continuously supply power. The recent event is a reflection of the fact that the laws provide for the outlawing of particular actions but not for their enforcement, which makes such actions dangerous. People have continued to wonder why the police are inactive and why they should come out strong in handling matters that lead to confrontations and making sure that people in the area are safe.
The case is an excellent example of this problem, so electricity theft will require much more stringent supervision and immediate initiation of legal proceedings.
