After abducting two persons, a 12-member gang of the national highway near Peechi in Kerala on Thursday looted more than 2.5kg of gold ornaments worth ₹ 1.84 crore. According to what a news agency reported, the police officials corroborated that the incident was recorded on the dashcam, and the video went viral on social media sites. In the video, the aggressive hazing involves at least three turbo cars surrounding a sedan as the highway shrunk near an under-construction flyover. The gang members, as usual, quickly surrounded the car and kidnapped two men, namely Arun Sunny and Rojy Thomas.

Police were able to indicate that the event occurred on the 22nd of September. First, the victims were attacked and later relieved of the gold ornaments. Fortunately, both men were let go after the robbery had been committed. Police said an FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint lodged under the sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case is still pending investigation, and a special investigation team (SIT) of senior officers has been deployed to investigate the case further as law enforcement scans for perpetrators.

In another crime spree in Kerala, a five-member group robbed three ATMs at Thrissur, competing with ₹65 lakh in cash. The robbers had to cut through the cash trays by using a gas cutter and made away with the money without meeting any people. This was done in a bid to disguise themselves in a way that would not be easily identifiable by CCTV cameras in the area; the gang, therefore, painted over the cameras.

These two have left people questioning security on the highways and in other parts of Kerala. The police are focusing on the two incidents to apprehend the culprits and make citizens’ safety more secure. The dashcam footage and every other piece of evidence are likely to help them solve the Peechi highway robbery.
