Six Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLAs, four Congress, and one RJD legislator were sworn in as ministers in Hemant Soren-led ministers on Thursday. The oath-taking exercise took place in the Ranchi Raj Bhavan and was conducted by Governor Revelama Shanker Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
Other leaders who also took their oaths include Deepak Birua and Ramdas Soren of JMM, Hafizul Hasan, Yogendra Prasad, Sudivya Kumar, and Chamra Lind. New Congress MLAs Radhakrishna Kishore, Irfan Ansari, Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Deepika Pandey Singh and RJD’s Sanjay Prasad Yadav also took the oath. This cabinet expansion clearly shows that all the parties in the coalition agreed to provide direction in the governance of the state.
As a pro-tem Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly, the senior JMM legislator Stephen Marandi also took the oath. This comes after a former Assembly Speaker, Hemant Soren, was sworn in as Chief Minister on November 28. Marandi’s appointment is understood as an organisational decision to lead the assembly during the initial course of its operations.
With the help of JMM, the allied partners came to power again in the state assembly after a comprehensive victory in the state polls. The alliance plank of JMM, Congress, and RJD contested 56 out of 81 assembly seats and looked very comfortable. Even the opposition BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could get only 24 seats.
The large cabinet, as underdeveloped, is expected to concentrate on important developmental issues, including unemployment, rural infrastructure, health and education in Jharkhand. It is stated that the unequal composition of the council of ministers means the coalition wanted the Executive Branch to reflect the population’s ethnic diversity and match the party’s promises of the election campaign.
This swearing-in makes the Soren-led government one hundred percent ready to start operating to expedite the development of this mineral-rich state.
