Kalyana Bainsla, who was arrested in connection with the alleged ‘deliberate collision’ between a woman biker in Gurugram, has been detained in police custody for two days. His friend Lavnish, who is also an accused in the case, has also been remanded to police custody.
An alleged road-rage incident of Bainsla with a bikerdressed woman on a bike went viral in social media on Tuesday, two days after which he was arrested at Dausa in Rajasthan. The accident happened in Gurgaon and caused a lot of commotion as footage of the crash went viral.
The police said that Bainsla was driving a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz when he allegedly rammed the woman named Sia’s back from an Aprilia RS 457 motorcycle. The video footage can be viewed to show the biker being hit by the speeding car and dragged or thrown several metres along the road.
What did take place on the Gurgaon Road?
Lavnish is alleged to have used inappropriate language towards Sia before the crash, police said. The biker allegedly told the occupants of the car to stay back, after which the scene went downhill.
Later Sia posted the video on Instagram which shared to the public about the experience she had during her ride. The video revealed the exchange as Bainsla toppled her bike seemingly without regard for the damage and continued to flee the scene.
Gurugram police have lodged an attempt to murder case on the basis of the footage captured by CCTV cameras, among other evidence, against Bainsla. A person can be imprisoned up to the maximum of 10 years for the offence.
Defence Claim Bainsla Was Provoked
A defence lawyer for Bainsla has fired back at the prosecution’s claims of serious wrongdoing. The defence suggests that Bainsla was provoked by Sia and others who were riding parties, and was alleged to be harassed and manipulated in the incident.
Police said they are likely to look at CCTV footage and social media videos and the roles played by those involved to establish the chain of events.
