Delhi’s air quality on January 2 remained in the “poor” category. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 283, marking a decline from Wednesday’s reading of 239 and Tuesday’s 236.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, the capital saw a temporary improvement in air quality, with levels shifting to the “moderate” category after heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Delhi’s Air Quality; Why Yellow Alert Is Issued In Delhi
With the beginning of the new year, the entire North India is in the grip of a severe cold wave. There has been snowfall in the hilly states, while cold winds and low temperatures in the plains have increased the melting. Cold wave has also intensified in Kashmir. An alert for rain and snowfall has been issued for the states of northwestern India from January 3 to January 6, in which the cold is likely to increase further. A yellow alert for dense fog has also been issued in Delhi on Thursday.
Fog in Delhi: There was light fog in most parts of Delhi on Wednesday morning. The maximum temperature during the day was 15 degrees Celsius, which was 4.3 degrees below normal, and the minimum was 7.4 degrees Celsius, which was 0.5 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature fell by 2.2 degrees compared to a day earlier.
Cold day conditions in many places: According to the Meteorological Department, a cold day is called a cold day when the temperature is less than 10 degrees and the maximum temperature is four and a half degrees below normal. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Delhi’s Palam, Lodhi Road, Najafgarh, Narela and Pusa areas fell by five to six degrees.
Coldest Palam : The coldest place in Delhi in the last five years was Palam, where the maximum temperature was 12.8 degrees. The day temperature of 15.1 degrees on January 1 was the coldest in five years, which was 14.7 degrees in 2020.
Dense fog likely : The Meteorological Department has predicted a maximum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius in many areas of Delhi on Thursday morning, with wind speed ranging between 8 and 14 kilometers per hour. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert.
