According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) latest forecast, Delhi will witness an extreme heat wave with maximum temperature going up to 45 degree celsius during the next week.
The weather department has issued a warning that the weather will remain extremely hot next week, with temperatures hitting 43°C to 45°C during the day for several days. There will be little respite at night either as minimum temperatures are likely to be in the high 20s to 27°C.
IMD isn’t yet issuing a formal colour coded heatwave alert for the national capital but the officials said it is likely it will remain severe in most parts of north India including Delhi. The department also predicted strong surface winds to blow at 20-30 kmph with gusts of speed reaching up to 40 kmph in the daytime.
In the meantime, there have been rising temperatures in Delhi for the weekend. Saturday saw a maximum of 40.8°C, slightly above the seasonal average, and the minimum temperature was 24.8°C which brought the main temperature into the 40 degree range again, marking the start of a long hot spell.
Weather officials have said prolonged exposure to the sun, staying hydrated and taking necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses are advised as conditions are expected to heat up even more in the next few days.
